Description:

 

Phoenix High School is a State approved Alternative Program located in Southeast Minneapolis near Powderhorn Park.  The program offers students of Minneapolis Public Schools a small school environment with strong student support in math, science, and the humanities.  Phoenix offers credit recovery opportunities through a schedule which allows students to double-up classes in areas in which students are behind in credits and through a wide variety of after-school seasonal activities including tech club, theater/drama, visual arts, camping expeditions, urban adventures, service-learning, alumni club, and intramural sports.  The school facility has access to a gym and has health and wellness policies that emphasize healthy eating and living.  Family involvement and support is a hallmark of the program and is coordinated by a restorative justice behavior specialist on staff.Phoenix High School is contracted by Minneapolis Public Schools and operated by Volunteers of America-Minnesota.

  • Students who qualify will also have the opportunity to make-up credits with additional classroom or online classes
  • Multiple grading periods within each quarter provide students with additional flexibility

Support Services:

  • A licensed school counselor is available to assist students with issues and problems which may be preventing success in school
  • Volunteers of America-Minnesota services are available to students including family support, mental health services and therapeutic support to foster homes
