Food Drives
There has been an incredible 62% increase in food self usage in Minnesota since 2000. More families, seniors, and children are in need of food this fall than ever before.
How you can help:
Thanksgiving Food Drives
We are looking for groups to hold Thanksgiving food and grocery store gift card collection drives at their business, organization, or church, pack up the food, and deliver it to a Volunteers of America-Minnesota program site the week of November 12th.
To make your collection drive easy and successful, we have promotional posters, shopping lists, and even an “I Donated” recognition turkey and feather cut-outs, available for you to download (see "Materials" column on the left-hand side of this webpage for links).
Here are the details:
- Register your group by contacting Kristin Cook at kcook@voamn.org or 952-945-4039.
- Download and print posters, shopping lists, and “I donated” recognition turkey/feather cut-outs to promote your drive (see "Materials" column on the left-hand side of this webpage for links).
- Set up a box or other receptacle in your building or office to collect Thanksgiving food and grocery store gift cards.
- Ask people to donate food items from the shopping list, or gift cards to any grocery store in an amount of their choosing ($5, $10, $15, $20, or $25—for the purchase of a turkey).
- Organize and pack-up collected food and gift cards—how you choose to do this is up to you! Put the food items in reusable grocery bags, baskets, paper bags, or boxes. If you’d like, attach handmade or store-bought “Happy Thanksgiving!” cards to the packages.
- Deliver everything to a Volunteers of America-Minnesota program site the week of November 12th. You will be “matched” with a program when you register.
Please contact Kristin Cook at kcook@voamn.org or 952-945-4039 with any questions or to register your group.
