Volunteers of America-Minnesota is a nonprofit organization founded in 1896 which offers a wide variety of services for more than 28,000 children, adolescents and their families, older adults, students, persons with disabilities and special needs, and ex-offenders each year. We are one of the oldest, largest and most comprehensive human service organizations in the state and have more than 60 programs, 900 employees and 8,000 volunteers.  We have a rich history of developing innovative programs to meet emerging social needs. We pride ourselves on sponsoring programs which are able to explicitly articulate the outcomes achieved in our program participants' lives.


Calling Minneapolis Adults 50+: Body, Brain & Basics Bootcamp begins in September!  Each 2 1/2 hour session includes 45-minutes of physical exercise, 45-minutes of brain challenges, a mini-seminar on a timely health-related topic. Locations/Times:

Lyndale Farmstead Park, 3900 Bryant Ave. S., Minneapolis

  • Session: September 13-17 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

  • Session: October 4-8 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Martin Luther King Park, 4055 Nicollet Ave. S., Minneapolis

  • Session: September 27-October 1 from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m.

“Charter School Network Excellence Awards” Announced by Volunteers of America-Minnesota

Volunteers of America-Minnesota is pleased to announce Global Academy, Birch Grove Community School, and TrekNorth Junior and Senior High as recipients of the “Volunteers of America Charter School Network Excellence Awards.”  The awards honor Volunteers of America authorized charter schools that have demonstrated strength in the areas of educational programming, financial management and oversight, and school board governance. PCC will assist homeless families from Scott and Carver counties on November 23. Volunteers needed!

Our RSVP program is involved with Project Community Connect (PCC).  PCC is a one-day, “one stop-shop” event on November 23, 2010 to provide information and resources to homeless individuals and families from Scott and Carver counties.  Services offered at the event include: housing information; employment services; legal assistance; obtaining documents such as Minnesota identification and birth certificates; basic medical care and dental services; haircuts; and education information.  Additionally, resources from local governmental agencies, non-profit organizations and the community’s citizenry will address the issue of homelessness and poverty at the event.  The PCC event will be held at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, MN on November 23, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  A variety of volunteer positions are available now through the date of the event.  <Volunteer: Click here for more information about volunteering. Senator Al Franken visits Park Elder!

On Sunday, August 2, at our Park ElderCenter, we hosted Senator Al Franken, senior advocates, and senior service providers for a discussion of upcoming changes to the Older Americans Act. The Act funds many critical services for seniors in Minnesota.  At the meeting, Senator Franken reported the findings of sessions with more than 400 seniors across the state about what’s working and what needs improving in the Act.
